Evan Dale Collins

 

I joined the chess club for LIFE Lab.  I won the All “A’ Honor Roll Award, Lexile Award, Citizenship Award, Fearless Fourth Grade Award, Attendance Award and the Writing Achievement Award.  My class also won Field Day.  Next year I will be in fifth grade and Lincoln Elementary Magnet School. I hope to be a part of the basketball team.

This year I continued in the band playing trumpet.  I took four advanced placement classes and a film class.  In the film class I produced a video in collaboration with the Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base.  I was on my school’s Black History Quiz Bowl Team, where we won second place at the county competition.  I’ve been teaching myself to dance and have been learning Korean.  I also started a YouTube channel, and my college auditions are in progress.  This school year I will be a senior at Westover High School and will be graduating in 2023. I will also serve as section leader for the trumpet section.

The last few years have been an adventure to say the least.  Through heartbreak, grief, single parenting and teaching through a global pandemic, I'm glad to still be here. Me and Dorothy survived COVID in August 2021 with only mild symptoms and we're grateful. My sole purpose in life right now is to be happy and equip my children to be happy and world changers. 

I won't say that I am still doing the same ol' thing or that nothing good has happened this year but I will say I am a work in progress. Everything will be okay.
